It's been far too long since I've published a smoothie recipe. Okay, three months isn't that long, but it feels like an eternity.
Sort of.
I promise you, I haven't quit drinking them. And since I have a small abundance of frozen organic strawberries lingering in my freezer, I figured it'd be perfect to incorporate them into a quick smoothie.
Never mind that I just bought six pounds of them on sale, washed, chopped and froze them all yesterday so I could have them for the winter months.
I have no self control when it comes to organic strawberries and will not delude myself into thinking they will last that long. Le sigh.
I think that qualifies as a negligible first world problem. In other words, not a real problem. You know what is, though? Etsy shipping. Boy, is that a pain in my rear end.
I opened my Etsy shop (The Rising Spoon Crafts) a few weeks ago and I'm still struggling with how to handle shipping. The seller has to figure everything out themselves even though the shipping could vary wildly depending on how far they have to ship their product.
It's not like eBay where the site calculates it automatically. Right now I only have my upcycled bottle cap earrings listed, but soon I'll have my sugar body scrubs. Once I settle on a shipping price for my glass mason jars that will cover the costs.
And I have several blog posts in the works. Plus, a whole board of recipe ideas. Expect homemade butter, nut milk, coconut butter, and coffee creamer recipes in the nearish future, amongst other things.
Oh, and keep an eye out for a monthly craft series with a DIY project. I've invited my lil' sister to write it. She's awesome at making stuff and I've always encouraged her to pursue creative endeavors. Hopefully connecting to all y'all awesome foodies will light a fire under her tush.
Figuratively speaking, of course. ;)
Organic Strawberry Banana Smoothie
An organic strawberry banana smoothie recipe full of yummy extras like organic hemp protein powder, yogurt, and organic chia seeds. The ingredients provide healthy protein, probiotics, fiber and antioxidants.
Serves: 1-2
Ingredients
1 large, ripe banana
1 cup of fresh or frozen organic strawberries*
1/2 cup of full-fat plain yogurt (substitute coconut milk yogurt if you're dairy-free)
3 tablespoons of hemp protein powder (get my favorite brand here)
2 tablespoons of chia seeds
1 teaspoon of grade b maple syrup or raw honey (optional)
Purified, reverse osmosis water (add until you reach the desired consistency)
*They can be slightly expensive in the off season, but try to purchase organic strawberries because conventional strawberries are high on the dirty dozen list. This means conventional (everyday) strawberries have a high pesticide residue.
Recommended Equipment
Blender
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a blender and add a little purified water at a time until you reach your desired consistency. Some people like thicker smoothies, other like them more liquid. You can also add ice to make it colder and I would recommend this if none of your fruit is frozen.
Notes & Tips
- For a more decadent, creamy smoothie substitute full-fat coconut milk or organic, grass-fed milk instead of water.
