Around the holidays one of my favorite appetizers and all day snacks is sour cream dip. I usually make a huge pile of chopped veggies like carrots, celery, cucumber, radishes and cherry tomatoes and even some chips and black olives for dipping. Oftentimes I fill up completely on the veggies before the main meal! Of course I always save room, but if you can't tell, I love this stuff!
Growing up my family used to buy store-made french onion dips, which we loved. But about ten years ago, I took a look at the back label of the carton and wasn't pleased with the ingredients list. Things like MSG (monosodium glutamate), modified food starch and soybean oil DO NOT belong in sour cream dip!
Thankfully, it's SUPER easy to make it at home with only a few ingredients. If you pick up a carton of full-fat sour cream (fat=flavor, folks) and a bundle of green onion, you probably already have the necessary spices in your pantry. Easy peasy!
Just make sure to bring some gum, essential oil toothpicks or mints to whatever gathering you're taking it to, cause you will definitely have garlic/onion breath. Some people care about that type of thing. Me? I don't even think it exists. I really love it that much!
Homemade Sour Cream & Onion Dip
Homemade sour cream and onion dip that's full of flavor, only takes minutes to make, and has no artificial or processed ingredients! Perfect for serving at get togethers with friends and family.
Yield: 16 ounces (2 cups)
Ingredients
1 container (16 oz) of full-fat sour cream
2 teaspoons of granulated garlic or garlic powder
3/4 teaspoon of quality sea salt
1/2 of a green onion bundle, thinly sliced
cayenne pepper or paprika, for garnishing (optional)
Directions
Thinly slice the green onions and open the sour cream container. Add the garlic, sea salt and green onion directly to the container and stir until well combined. Let it sit in the fridge for 20-30 minutes to let the flavors marry and then transfer to a serving container (I like bright ceramic bowls). Top with additional green onion slices and sprinkle with either cayenne pepper or paprika for garnish, then serve immediately.
